Pats Pound Lakers
The Patriot Wrestling Squad started the wrestling season with a convincing win over league rival Boy's Latin 55 to 19, even without returning All Americans, George Weber (145) and Scott Strapelli (138) who were on Retreat. Starting off the victory over Boys Latin, freshmen Phil Venanzi and Christian Scott recorded pins and along with Steven Jernigan's forfeit win, the Patriots were out to a quick 18 point lead. Senior, TJ Centi then came back from a slight injury to squeak out a 12-10 victory at 145. In what was the quickest affair of the evening, and a record setting time for a freshman fall, Chris Almony (brother of former Patriot standout Nick Almony) recorded a fall in just 13 seconds in the 152lbs. weight class. The Laker's managed a win at 160, but the Pat's got back on track as freshman, Hunter Ritter recorded a major decision, 17-5 at 170. At 182, junior, Jay Etkins battled back from a 4 point deficit to earn a 2nd period fall. In Jay's first year of wrestling he is turning a number of heads and looks poised to have a break out year. Fellow junior and team veteran Dan Kleble then recorded a 1st period fall at 195. Boy's Latin then came from behind to pin at 220 and took a forfiet at 285 to close out the heavyweights. Finally to end the affair freshman, Zach Dwyer accepted a forfeit and patriot Devin Davis (currently ranked in state polls) turned in a dominating 19-5 major decision at 113. The match ended with a major decison for Boy's Latin at 120.
