Pat's Lose 37-28 To The #1's
Last Tuesday, visiting Archbishop Spalding managed to outlast JC to win their first conference dual, and hand JC thier first loss. The match started at 106, and went back and forth through the first 10 bouts, then the Cavaliers won 3 of the last 4. Spalding was 33-0 last year and ranked 16th in the country this pre-season.
John Carroll Beats Curley
For the 3rd time in as many years, John Carroll managed to beat the Friar's. In a match filled with big moves, power outages and controversy, JC manged to outlast AC, 35-32 at Curley, in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Four Patriot Grapplers Take On The Beast
This past weekend 4 of JC's best---Scott Strappelli, George Weber, Chris Almony and Hunter Ritter traveled to the University Of DE to take on the best high school wrestlers in the East Coast. Although no one placed, Ritter and Weber were only one win away--both going 5-2.
William Penn Tournament
With four guys at the Beast, one injured and two out-of-town, the Patriots took a team of 10 to the Howdy Duncan Memorial Tournament in New Castle, DE The tournament was named after 46 year William Penn JV coach who died last year of pancreatic cancer. Despite having only a skeleton team, John Carroll managed a 4th place finish out of the field of 20 teams. Leading the way was freshman, Steven Jernigan who won the 126lb weight class, followed by junior, Artie Milner who took 2nd. Other placing JC wrestlers were: Zach Dwyer (3rd-106); Ben Swanson (3rd-152); Christian Scott (4th-138); TJ centi (6th-145) and Dan Kelble (6th-195)
Battle Of Bel Air XIII
This Thursday (12/22) night...again at JC...the 2-1 Patriots take on the 8-2 Bobcats. The varsity action starts at 6:30. It's preceded by Fallston Jr vs Bel Air Jr and the junior varsity matches at 5:30. There will be an Almni reception to follow the varsity match in the Brown Room. Come by, grab a sandwich and sit a while afterward
Wrestleoffs
The 2nd wrestleoff of the season takes place at 5:30 Tuesday, 12/20. As in the past, we follow the "Big Dog" system employed by many D-1 colleges, The 'system' says that challengers have to beat the incumbent 2x to take the spot. Wrestlers trying to take the varsity spot for a weight class 145 or lighter has to be with in 3lb's to challenge. For 152 and heavier---within 4lb's.
