JC Wrestling End Of Season


John Carroll Crowns 1st National Champion
This past weekend John Carroll and 150 other private/parochial schools from throughout the country competed in 76th National Prep Wrestling Championships. Entering only three wrestlers the Patriots managed to place 2 and crown a champion, earning a 15th place finish as a team. John Carroll senior, Mathew Miller (171lbs) became the school's 1st National Champion with a 5-3 win over Texas's, Trey Adamson from Bishop Lynch High School. From the start, Miller, the 3rd seed, established his dominance by pinning his first 3 opponents in the 1st period, then decisioning the #2 seed from Georgia, 6-2 in the semifinals. In his finals match, Miller reversed his opponent with 4 seconds left in the final period to win the match and tournament. Miller ends his high school career with 205 wins for John Carroll and is bound for the US Naval Academy. At 130lbs, sophomore, George Weber became a 2x All American, by placing 5th. Weber improved on last year's 6th place finish, with a 3-0 win over Mt St Joseph's, Kevin Johnson. John Carroll's 3rd tournament placer, was 119 lb sophomore, Scott Strappelli. Strappelli earned a 4-2 win over Austin Marisco from Pittsburgh's, Kiski Prep School. Last season, Strappelli won the state title but did not place at Nationals
