JC Wrestling Newsletter


Patriots Beat Curley 
For the second consecutive year, the Patriots found a way to beat the Friars of Arch Bishop Curley.  This time, missing 2 Varsity regulars, with a shuffled line up, JC was able to get by Curley 34-32 on the strength of a fall by Mathew Miller in the final match of the night.  Along the way, back ups Josh Moscati and TJ Centi filled in admiralby keeping their matches close, and putting the match's outcome in the hands the "pinning machine".  Mathew sports a pinning percentage in excess of 90% over his 190 career high school wins-to-date.
 
JC Chases The Big Boys But Falls Short
At the Harford Tech Duals this past Saturday, John Carroll came up short against some of MD's top teams.  Again, trying fill gaps left by illness, John Carrol shuffled the line up but came up short against #7 DeMatha, #6 LaPlata and #15 Stephen Decatur, but were able to beat Wooton and Tabb (Va).  Mathew Miller wrestled 171 and 189 and went 5-5 with 5 falls;  Scott Strappelli (119) was 4-0; George Weber, Dan Froehlich were 4-1.
 
Vitucci Wins #100
Senior Co-Captain, Joe Vitucci won his 100th varsity match this past Saturday with a 5-3 win over his DeMatha opponent.  Joe is certified to wrestle 135, but bumped up to 145 for the match.  He joins Dan Froehlich and Mathew Miller as current Patriot Grapplers with 100 or more varsity wins.  A complete list of John Carroll Wrestlers with 100 wins or more can be found at: http://www.johncarrollwrestling.com/johncarrollwrestling/Awards.aspx
 
Next Up:
#9 John Carroll at #1 Spalding in a tri-meet with Tuscarora, at 4pm Wednesday;
and...JC v #17 Mt St Joe at JC this friday at 4pm...Varsity only.  This is a huge opportunity for the Patriots to finally beat the Gaels
